The Shadow Spirit 750 has a very low seat height, something on the order of 26", so it is very easy for the new rider to feel comfortable and confident. The Shadow Spirit 750 does have a chain drive, so it does require a bit more maintenance than a belt or shaft drive. I am an engineer, so pretty comfortable with basic maintenance on my own.

As you continue to ride after the light turns on it will probably get brighter as more of the sensor gets out of the fuel. John.
You'll see the the fuel pump and the fuel filter. If you replace with the factory filter, the part number is 16900-MG8-003. It's in a little rubber cushion/holder on the left side of the frame. The thing in the tank is a screen. And unless it's torn or ripped, you should not have to replace it.

I went to NAPA and got a brass 1/4" barbed nipple and put it in with an extra 1 inch of new fuel line and 3 hose clamps. That leaves 2.37 gallons usable fuel. If my ciphering is corect I got 36.75 mpg. rocksolid. '85 VT700 should have a 3.3 gal main tank and a .53 gal reserve tank. If you only need the extra range on occasion, a cheap way is to scrounge up a big Briggs and Stratton tank or a marine tank for small boats. Tap into the fuel system with a quick disconnect fitting and strap it onto the pillion or rack.

If it is threaded in all you have to do is buy a petcock that will attach to the tank correctly. Or you could just put an inline on off valve.
