I like Seven Seas because it works for every kind of civ. For the exploration side of the game, I like maps like Continents and islands, Archipelago, Island Plates or Small Continents where you discover the map with naval units, following the coasts. An other map I play often is Inland Sea.

I'd say the most macro thing to realize going up to Emperor is that Civ 6 rewards chasing your victory very narrowly.
