When the W12 was being produced, the other model they had was a fixed sight service revolver called the D11. The "D" & "W" most likely were for Dan Wesson.The Dan Wesson 15-2 revolvers were available in a number of different variants. I know that if the S/N starts with 13xxxxx, then the pistol was made in 2013 and if the S/N starts with 14xxxxx, then the pistol was made in 2014.
