They probably are in the same block of serial numbers. My .38-55 should be one of the earlier ones since it's drilled and tapped for a side mount receiver sight.

They were under the lever until the late 60's then on the top tang after that. As far as value, it depends on condition, but I would say in good condition $250 - $350.
