In order to do this you must pull the inside door panel out at least on the back half of the door. Pull back the vapor barrier. I did this from outside the car by moving the back of the door away from the car.

In regard to getting the clip off of the inside door handle. Take a strip of cloth, slide the cloth in from the top of the handle. Pulling down on both ends, slide the cloth back and forth will pulling downward on the ends. The clip will dislodge and pop out.
