New here but have spent a lot of time reading posts! After a while I decided to build a little 10ft skiff... see pics below. It turned out great and is performs awesome. With a 6hp four stroke it tops out at 19mph. Bateau’s SK14is without a doubt one of the skinniest water micro-skiffs we’ve had the pleasure of running. We’ve literally floated this rig in about 2 1/2″ of water! Even more satisfying is that we successfully completed building this boat from the ground up using plans provided by veteran boat designer and builder, Jacques Mertens. No complaints or issues so far and I do everything from poling for tailing reds to trolling passes/beaches.

Hells Bays latest add says they take 300 hours to build a skiff. It’s about right. Now multiple that by today’s wages for glass guys, riggers etc. so let’s be generous at $30.00 an hour average. That’s $9,000.00 plus the above... equals $26,600.00. Then what brings the costs up is all the rest of the overhead.
