Because this article is for the beginning coin collector, we’re going to only look at the following four coins: 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. 1918/7-S Standing Liberty Quarter. 1932-D Washington Quarter. 1932-S Washington Quarter. The reverse die that they used did not have the motto. They also minted an 1866 quarter and half dollar that is also lacking the motto on the reverse of the coin. Only two specimens are known to exist without the motto. One specimen resides in a museum.
