Looking at tractordata it says that model could have had a fully manual transmission or a "PowrReverser", so I assume that you mean that it has the PowrReverser which tractordata describes as a partially synchronized shuttle shift. It is possible that something in the shuttle shift system is bogging down the engine to where it dies.
