I thought we were going to have a tpk after round 1 last session. The fight ended up being 12 rounds and we had characters reach dying 2 and dying 3. We were able to get everyone back up and finished the encounter. It was great. My GM has stopped near TPK combats because time ran out on the session, but he has never given us an out.Anyways this detour led to a 5˜ session sidequest to get to the city, mind you we were playing every 1 month or every 1,5 month due to scheduling. If the party does TPK, my advice is to toss the ball back to them. If they want a new party, let them decide how they will pick up the trail. Retcon things if you have to. When I’ve TPKed in the past, as a player at least, I tend to prefer scrapping the campaign altogether. Sometimes the bad guys win, and that can be a satisfactory conclusion.
