I just think the entire wifi network regarding the zune isn't active anymore. The same problem happened to me. I can connect to the internet on my HD version but I couldn't get wifi on my 30 model. From a router perspetive, I recall WPA only for the Zune 30. Long story made short I've had this old Zune 8GB in my possession for ages now. It's always had battery issues for years. On the original battery/unmodified I could get it to boot up while plugged in but would immediately die when disconnected. Decided to try and replace the battery a few ... You should see a very faint battery icon (easier to see in low light). It will not actually power on unless the battery can hold at least a small charge. It could still be a charging port issue but more likely it's a defective battery given the Zune's age. Same boat here, I found a 120 GB zune at Goodwill today.
