I read somewhere that the "U" in the serial number (other than on the P226 where it was always the model prefix code) was added to designate "United States" on US made frames. It appears in the serial numbers of the more recent years of P229 and 239.There should be an information decal on the case identifying the model, and "birthdate", otherwise call Sig CS and give them the serial number.
