In the USA, only the frame is required to have a number. I guess the 320 and pistols like it only have it on the chassis or whatever they call the metal part that rides inside the polymer. Nov 5, 2017 · Those early P229's are really cool. Too bad it doesn't have an original barrel, but you can find one. More than likely the barrel didn't have a serial number anyway. Used DA/SA P229's are usually in the $550-$700 range depending on condition. I might pay a little more for an early one. BTW, .40 S&W and .357 SIG use the same magazine in the P229.

The "legacy slide" on the P229 has a short extractor while more recent slides have the long extractor and full height cocking serrations.
