I-77 South all the way to I-26 on the south end of Columbia, SC. I-26 East to Charleston, SC. This is a 13 hour drive, not counting stops, so you may want to spend the night somewhere to relax. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Beckley, WV several times and have always had a nice room. (Beckley would be about the midway point for you.)

I really don't understand the intense dislike in the responses on the Savannah forum.
