T-stat relocation does cause it to run a bit cooler -- in stock setup 180 degree t-stat is controlled by a mixture of hot engine coolant from the bypass as well as by the cooler coolant returning from the rad. Now you have a t-stat that is controlled by hot coolant exclusively.
