I stick to 1911s. And when I want a double stack, it's a Sig classic P-series. Even the P226 feels downright svelte compared to the Prodigy. Edited to add: Springfield continues to list a weight for the 4.25" Prodigy as 32.5 oz. It's not - mine weighed 37 oz on a digital scale. It's not a light carry option.

He had looked at the gun and seemed interested but was on the fence. I walked over and told the sales kid I'd take it. Only thing I didn’t like about Houtlaw review is he used the Staccato mag in majority of the review. Most people won’t buy the prodigy if they own Staccatos. Stock mags seem to be one of the problems with the prodigy. I held and racked a prodigy in my local FFL and I thought it was smooth felt good in the hand.

Both the prodigy's were $1400 OTD at a lgs. so $1,000 savings vs the Staccato for me (for 1 Prodigy vs 1 Staccato). Of course now I want the P, cause buy all the guns. Even if I add an EGW ignition kit to the 5", I'd still be $850 cheaper than the P. For some that is pocket change, for others, not so much.

HOWEVER, I have added a Sig P229 Legion SAO since buying the Staccato P.If price isn’t a big factor and out of the box performance is, then the Staccato is the way to go. If you’re willing to tinker if needed and price is a factor then the Prodigy is less expensive but appears more likely to have issues (though most seem easily solved).
